Young Justice Themed Cake - July 2014
I made this Young Justice themed cake for my daughter Cara for her 15th birthday. Young Justice is an animated television show that mainly focuses on the younger generation of superheroes. The character on the right side of the cake (on the blue strip of fondant) is not from the show; it is a character that Cara made up based on herself named Bluefire.

Eat Your Vegetables... - June 2014
I made this asparagus cake for my sister Valerie for her birthday. I saw the inspiration for this cake originally on a Sunday Sweets post on the Cake Wrecks site. It had a link to the original post from Rosie at Sweetapolita where I saw how she made her AMAZING asparagus cake (and another here). My sister usually cooks fresh asparagus and brings it to our family meals, so I thought this would be a fun cake to make for her.

Abstract Art Cupcakes - June 2014
After I made the cakes for my daughter's teachers (see this post) I had some of the green fondant strips leftover as well as some cupcakes I had made with the extra batter. So, I decided to have some fun and make some abstract art cupcakes for my family to enjoy. :)

Sweet Flowers for Sweet Teachers - June 2014
I made these cakes for my daughter Carissa's teachers as a thank you at the end of the year.
I thought the cakes turned out very nicely - pretty and elegant. :)

Powdered Sugar Topped Chocolate Cupcakes - June 2014
I honestly don't remember why I made these cupcakes. I was taking or sending them somewhere... Maybe with one of the kids.? Anyway, I don't remember. :)
I baked the chocolate cupcakes, and let them cool. Then, I sifted some powdered sugar on top of them and finished them off with some chocolate shavings.
Easy, pretty, yummy. :)
(Below is a picture before I put the chocolate shaving on them, in case you like that look better.)

Minecraft Creeper Marshmallows - April 2014
These creeper marshmallows from Minecraft were for the goodie bags at my son's 12th birthday. (You can see the cake from the party here.)
I bought square marshmallows at the store and airbrushed all sides green. It didn't matter if they were covered really evenly because the video game has that pixel-y look anyway. After they dried I used a black edible marker to draw the creeper faces on them.
I thought they were pretty cool, and they kids all loved them. :)

Minecraft Grass Block Cake - April 2014
I made this Minecraft grass block cake (with a little Steve on top) for my son, Caleb's, 12th birthday.
It didn't turn out as clean and shored up as I wanted, but I liked it and Caleb was really thought it was cool. :)
More pictures and details coming soon. :)

Rock Candy Baby Shower Cake - March 2014
I made this cake for my sister Valerie and her husband Josh for a baby shower in honor of their 2nd baby. I also made some gluten free cupcakes (regular and mini) that matched the cake for some of her friends who have a gluten allergy.
My sister had seen the basic rock candy cake design in a picture. She wanted to change the colors of the candy to go with their baby theme colors and wanted to add a personalized fondant topper to announce the baby's name. I ended up making homemade rock candy for the cake.

Music Themed Cake Balls - March 2014
My son's band was having a cake ball sale; so I made these music themed cake balls to donate to it.
More pictures to come... :)
I used white candy melts to pipe the music notes, treble clefs, and bass clefs out onto parchment paper. I let them harden and they were ready for when I needed them to decorate the cake balls.
To make the basic cake balls I followed Bakerella's instructions. You can find them here.
Right after dipping the cake balls I topped them with some yellow nonpareil sprinkles and one of the white music themed candy decorations. You have to be ready and work quickly so the chocolate doesn't harden before you get everything on it.

Chocolate Raspberry Cupcakes - March 2014
These are chocolate raspberry cupcakes. After I made the Switchfoot themed cupcakes (you can see the post here) I had extra chocolate ganache and raspberry sauce leftover. So, a few days later I made another batch of chocolate cupcakes so my family and friends could have some to enjoy.
I made mini cupcakes and regular cupcakes.

Switchfoot Themed Cupcakes - March 2014
These are cupcakes that I made for the band members of Switchfoot and their crew as part of the Switchfoot Baking Club. I brought them to a concert that my friend and I went to in March.
For the top set I made chocolate toppers of their 'logo', some music notes, and SF for Switchfoot. The bottom set have fondant toppers with the songs from their Fading West album (the new one at the time) written across them. In the 'background' of each topper I wrote lyrics from that particular song.

Pink Heart Cake Balls - February 2014
I made these cake balls for a good friend whose grandfather had passed away.
I used a #3 round tip to pipe pink candy melts onto parchment paper in heart shapes. I filled a few of them in, but most were just the outline. I let them harden and set so they were ready when I started dipping the cake balls.
Ready to dip!
Right after dipping the cake ball I placed a pink heart on top. If it starts to slide a little just hold it in place for a second. Have your decorations ready and be quick so you get them placed before the chocolate hardens; it looks nicer that way. If you don't get it on in time though you can dot a little chocolate on top the cake ball and attach it that way.
Here are a few extras that I decorated differently.
For the cake balls in the picture above I had to hold the hearts in place until the chocolate hardened enough to hold them upright on their own.

Cake Assist: 'Nerdy 30' Cake - February 2014
My sister Casandra asked me if I could make the decorations for this cake. Her husband, Joe, baked and iced the cake (both which he made from scratch). Casandra was turning 30, and she wanted a 'Nerdy Thirty' themed cake. She told me some things that she'd like to have represented, and then told me to make whatever else I thought would fit the theme.
Daddy Rubik's Cube and Baby Rubik's Cube :)
Live Long & Eat Cake :)
"I'm Batman"
All of the decorations were made out of fondant. Details were added with fondant or painted on with food coloring or a food coloring marker. I had figured out how to make the letters of her name out of fondant Tetris blocks, but unfortunately I didn't have enough time to make them.
She loved the cake & the party was lots of fun!
