Easter Chick Cupcakes - March 2013

I made these cute little chick cupcakes for our Easter celebration with my family.  I saw them on a great site called Bird on a Cake last year and couldn't wait to make them.

To make these chicky cupcakes I followed a tutorial (with pictures) that Robin from Bird on a Cake has made.  The only thing I changed for my cupcakes was the tip that I used to make the wings.  I used a #3 round tip to pipe the wings on.  It's just how I decided to do it at the time, but I think I like the shape and height the wings that the original cupcakes have; so I think I would use the tip she did if I were to make them again (or make more layers with the #3 tip).

My family and I thought these were so adorable.  We also liked the little bit of crunch the sanding sugar give the cupcakes when you bite into them.  Cute, cute, cute!  :)

(Also, check out the deviled egg chicks that I made for Easter as well.)

Easter Deviled Egg Chicks - March 2013

Okay, so these are not cake, but I thought these little deviled egg chicks were cute, so I decided to share them.  :)

While not looking specifically for them, I first came across these on Pinterest.  The links I clicked and ended up making them from brought me to a site called Alison Artisan (tutorial with pictures here) and a site called A Thrifty Mom (tutorial with pictures here).  I honestly don't remember which I saw first, but I pulled ideas and tips from both.

I thought these were so cute, and once I saw them (a couple months before Easter) I couldn't wait for Easter to come so I could make them.  I didn't follow the actual recipe for the deviled egg mixture on either site, I  just used my usual deviled egg recipe.  The eyes are pieces of black olive and the beaks are carrot pieces.  I followed the instructions in the links above for making them into little chicks.

I thought these turned out cute, and they were a big hit when we got together with my family for Easter.  They were almost too cute to eat.  :)

Personalized Easter Egg Cookies Featured! :)

The Easter egg sugar cookies that I made last year for my daughter, Carissa's, Kindergarten class's Spring Party were featured on Homemaker on a Dime!

Every Sunday evening SJ at Homemaker on a Dime hosts a link party called Creative Bloggers' Party and Hop.  You can link up your crafts, recipes, creations, etc for others to browse through, and while you're there you can also visit other people's creations that they've added to the party.  The following week she features some of the best entries linked up from the previous week.  Last week I linked my personalized Easter egg sugar cookies that I made and was excited to see that they were on this week's features.  Thanks, SJ!  :)  Here is a link to SJ's post that includes my Easter egg cookies, and here is the link to my original post on the cookies.

Easter Egg Cookies - April 2011

I made these Easter egg cookies for my daughter, Carissa, to share with her Kindergarten class at their Spring Party.

To make these Easter egg cookies I followed the directions for making cut-out cookies on the sugar cookie mix.  I rolled out my dough, cut the cookies out using an egg shaped cookie cutter, baked them, and let them cool completely.  Next I tinted some vanilla buttercream icing pink in one bowl and blue in another bowl.  I heated the bowl with the pink icing up for about 10 seconds, just enough to thin the consistency of the icing a little.  Then I dipped some of the cookies in the icing to coat the top side of the cookie.  I set them on parchment paper to dry and repeated the same thing for the other cookies in the blue icing.  I used blue for the boys in the class and pink for the girls in the class.  Then I put a little blue icing (not what was heated up) in a piping bag and piped the blue lines on the pink cookies.  I repeated the same thing with the other icing colors to make the pink and yellow lines and the white dots.  Then I used some white icing to pipe the names on the cookies.

I thought they turned out cute, and the kids loved them!  They liked eating a cookie with their name on it.  [We also made one for the teacher, she liked hers too.  :)]

Easter Egg Hunt Cookies - March 2008

I made these Easter Egg Hunt Cookies for Caleb's Kindergarten Spring Party.

I made a batch of sugar cookies.  After they cooled I used my grass tip with buttercream icing to make a little bed of grass (see the 'Maybe They Should've Registered For HIS and HERS' post if you want to know what a grass tip is).  Next I used a single round tip with a large opening to make the eggs.  Those were also made with buttercream icing tinted three different colors.  It wasn't as easy as I thought it would be to make egg shapes.  They kept wanting to have points on them, but even the ones that came out a little pointier didn't look too bad.  The kids didn't seem to mind, I guess odd shaped eggs taste just as good as nice shaped ones when they're made of icing.  :)  [Of course you could always use jellybeans, egg shaped malted milk balls, or other egg shaped candy instead of piping the eggs on with icing.  :) ]
